Ford Maverick Tire Size

by Jerry Ford | Last Updated November 15, 2022 | 4 min read

Ford Maverick

The Ford Maverick was unveiled in June of 2021 as a compact crew cab pickup, labeled as Ford’s smallest pickup truck. Believe it or not, the 2022 Ford Maverick is similar to the Bronco Sport body. The Maverick was available for sale that same year as the 2022 model.

This pickup was focused on the younger, more active demographic of Ford owners. Ford began manufacturing the Maverick in September of 2021, ahead of a promising influx of orders. However, in January 2022, Ford ceased taking orders, citing a backlog of buyers, pointing to a promising release and proving the market need for an affordable pickup truck.

The 2022 Ford Maverick tire size is generally a 17 or 18-inch rim with corresponding tires, containing a 225 tread width. Because owners have already gone to modify their Mavericks with their own lifted versions with bigger Maverick tires, this article also highlights Maverick wheels and tires for the standard and lifted Maverick.

What 2022 Ford Maverick Tire Sizes Are Available from the Factory?

Ford Maverick wheels

If you opt for stock wheels, the 2022 Ford Maverick’s tire size is typically configured as follows based on the trim level:

  • The XL comes equipped with 17-inch steel rims. These rims hold a P225/65R 17″ A/S BSW tire.
  • The Maverick XLT sports a 17-inch aluminum rim, made for a P225/65R 17″ A/S BSW tire, OR 18-inch aluminum rims with 225/60 R18 A/S BSW tires.
  • The Lariat configuration comes standard with 18-inch aluminum rims with 225/60 R18 100H A/S BSW tires.

What Size Winter Tires Can You Put On a 2022 Ford Maverick?

Ford Maverick outdoor

The largest optional tire size you can place on your Ford Maverick is a 235/65 R17. Any bigger, and you’re going to need a lift-kit installed. However, this doesn’t mean that installing Ford Maverick aftermarket wheels are out of the question.

Raising the 2022 Ford Maverick a few inches via lift kit – and you’ve got a completely different truck with a whole new gallery of different options. A simple 2.0-inch lift-kit gives you about over 8-inches of ground clearance, in addition to providing a significant boost during departure and approach runs on any steep incline.

If it’s winter tires you’re looking for in a snow-laden area, the 235/65 R17 – particularly the Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2. Ironman 17″ All Country M/T tires are another great 2022 Maverick tire size if you’re looking for something standard in factory size for winter conditions or general off-road capability.

What Aftermarket Tire Upgrades Can You Do With a 2022 Ford Maverick?

Ford Maverick aftermarket lift kit

Are you looking for an aftermarket tire that’s prepared for off-road situations? Ford Maverick aftermarket wheels are excellent for models of this truck that have lift kits installed. A 345/55R22 Nitto Mud Gripper is one of the most sought after aftermarket upgrades. These tires have no problem tearing through mud, or any hazardous terrain, for that matter.

30.5-inch BFG tires are excellent if a lift kit is installed also. These aren’t designed for mud quite like the Nitto, but they’ll do just fine in other offroad conditions.

One of the best lift kits available for the Ford Maverick is manufactured by Rough Country. This 2.0-inch lift kit comes equipped with front upper strut spacers, crafted from heavy duty steel, painted with a black powder coat, and has rear coil spring spacers. Surprisingly, the kit is available for a thrifty $199.95.

The Maverick: Small In Size, But Not Options

The Ford Maverick may be one of Ford’s smaller offerings, but don’t be fooled – this truck is anything but small in personality. With multiple factory trims available in addition to aftermarket configurations, you might have a difficult time deciding which Maverick tire size to use.

Honestly, it comes down to a matter of stock vs. aftermarket configurations. Are you going with factory sized tires, or are you lifting your Maverick? Ultimately, the difference lies in a few inches of clearance.
